Beverly Jackson with the Cocoa Exchange - Small Business Spotlight

How did your business get its start?
I went to a girls night and saw the potential to help pay off our credit card debt without paying a sitter to watch the kids. I've continued it because I am paying off our credit card debt while staying home with my 3 boys and am going to homeschool them starting next year.
What inspires you the most (about your business/brand)?
I want to help others find simple solutions to create healthy meals easy and delicious. This life is a busy one and convenience can often sacrifice nutrition, as a mom that is not an acceptable trade off. Being able to share that you don't have to make that trade with others, is the main driving force in my business.
What's the best thing about running your own business?  The worst?
I can be home with my toddlers and be there for them, watching the lightbulb go off in their heads just makes my whole day. Because I work from home, getting my "job" done each day can have it's challenges...toddlers wanting to talk on the phone, mommy is on the phone this is a perfect time for the bubble bath in the bathroom sink etc. I wouldn't change it though, having this time with them as they discover their world is priceless.
Share a funny story about your business.
Making my first video of why I do what I do, my then 2 year old, was shaking his head emphatically yes or no appropriately. No it wasn't staged or coached, so I kept it even though I had a few bloopers in my speaking.
What kind of music do you listen to while you work?
With toddlers in the house, I tend to turn on the tv while I try to work, so music isn't on. Does the Cars theme count?
How has your business most helped you and/or your family grow?
I have been able to stay home with my 3 boys and am expecting our 4th child in November. Not having to worry about what will I be doing after the baby, is a huge stress relief. We have paid off credit cards and continue to work towards our goal of being debt free while I get to enjoy making friends with the hosts and my fellow consultants. I get a vacation once a year without kids, man I miss them when I am gone, but enjoy those few days learning how to improve my business while not worrying if everyone has enough food, drink or breaking up the latest fight.
Of all the products you carry, which is your very favorite?  Which is a customer favorite?
My favorite The Cocoa Exchange item is actually our entire line of spices and sauce mixes called Pod & Bean. I particularly love Mexican seasoning blend or Cantonese seasoning. Both are used weekly in our house depending on what we are making for dinner. Whenever a recipe calls for chili seasoning I use Mexican seasoning blend instead and Cantonese is wonderful in spaghetti, one of the boys favorite meals.
What are you looking forward to about the Market?
Meeting new people, making new friends and sharing the opportunity to make healthy meals that taste great without sacrificing nutrition.
You will find Beverly in person at the market at the Denver Queen City Horse Show or on Facebook.
